In comparison to the previously known wipers, the wiper (1) according to the invention is moved in the vertical direction - perpendicularly with respect to the longitudinal axis of the windscreen (3) - from the upper frame part (2) to the lower frame part (16) and vice versa and thus wipes the entire window surface (3) free of precipitation even if the windscreen or rear window is curved at the side and even if the windscreen or rear window becomes wider towards the lower frame part (16). The wiper (1) comprises a flexible tube having an appropriately constructed surface, in which there is incorporated a spiral spring (4) which for its part is fitted, such that it can be rotated and exchanged, with its two ends (5) into the transport mechanism (7, 8) integrated in the lateral frame parts (6). The entire transport mechanism (7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) - also if constructed in another manner - may be mounted in a separate housing on the window frame (2, 6, 16) for the purpose of retro-fitting. <IMAGE>
