PURPOSE:To ensure that the flatness of a printing surface of a heat generating element matrix constituted of a plurality of thermal printer heads capable of being electrically connected to heat generating elements can be electrically confirmed from above protective films provided on the heat generating elements, by covering each of the heat generating elements with a conductive protective film. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating element 3 is provided on the tip surface of an insulating substrate 2. Conductors 4 electrically connected respectively to both ends of the heat generating element 3 are provided on both end faces of the substrate 2 by vapor deposition or the like. The heat generating element 3 is covered by a conductive protective film 5 therefor. Predetermined ones of the heat generating elements 3 are energized to generate heat, whereby an arbitrary image is printed on a thermal paper maintained in close contact with thermal printer heads 1. A heat generating element matrix 6 is produced by stacking a plurality of the heads 1, with an insulating spacer 8 disposed in each adjacent pair of the heads 1. Since the protective films 5 of the heads 1 are conductive, whether or not the printing surface of the matrix 6 is satisfactorily flat can be judged by discriminating whether or not each of the conductors 4 is electrically connected to a metallic surface 7. |
