PURPOSE:To exhibit powerful growth promoting effect on paddy rice and promote the growth thereof, by applying a 2-benzothiazoloxyacetic acid in a specific application amount to the water surface of paddy fields in a specific application period. CONSTITUTION:At least one of a 2-benzothiazoloxyacetic acid expressed by the formula (R is OH, lower alkoxy, amino or lower alkylamino) and well known as a plant growth regulation active compound, e.g. 2- benzothiazoloxyacetic acid, methyl ester or N-methylamide, etc., thereof in 0.05-12kg/ha application amount is applied to treat the water surface of paddy fields during a period about 3 days before transplanting of paddy rice to before the tillering after the transplanting to promote the growth of the paddy rice. EFFECT:Since rooting and growth of rice plants in paddy fields are improved and taking root is promoted for transplanted seedlings to give increase in root weight and vitality of roots, the stability of rice plants in the rhizosphere soil is increased to further promote the growth of paddy rice and promote tillering, etc.
