PURPOSE:To tightly chuck workpieces different in outside dimensions without exchanging jaws by sliding a jaw on a plurality of flat slide sections arranged on the internal peripheral surface of a housing taperingly from the depths to the opening section. CONSTITUTION:To chuck a workpiece, oil is poured through an oil port 12 to advance a rod 6. This also advances a jaw 9 through a disk 8 to slide a block 14 abutting it to the flat slide sections 10b of a housing resulting in the radial approach of an abutting section 15a. To release the workpiece, oil is poured through an oil port 13 to separate the block 15 of the jaw 9. In this case, even if the sliding stop position of the jaw 9 varies with the size of the workpiece, it can be always chucked tightly. This results in being capable of chucking and releasing a workpiece different in dimensions. A workpiece excessively different in outside dimensions can cope with the difference by adjusting the quantity of adjusting plate 16.
