PURPOSE:A desiccant for coating compound having high drying rate of film of coating and low coloring of film of coating fiber drying, comprising a metallic salt of a specific saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:The aimed desiccant comprising one or more of metallic salts (preferably cobalt salt or lead salt) of saturated aliphatic carboxylic acids (preferably having 9-13 total carbon atoms, preferably a mixture of secondary carboxylic acid and tertiary carboxylic acid in molar ratio of 0.65-0.75:0.25-0.35) shown by the formula (R1 and R2 are 1-6 C alkyl; R3 is H or 1-6 C alkyl). The amount of the desiccant blended with coating compound is usually 0.1-0.4wt% (% of metal based on solid content of coating compound) in the case of lead salt and properly 0.005-0.01wt% in the case of cobalt salt.
