PURPOSE:To join firmly a metallic sheet by a simple device by energizing a movable die piece in an annular supporting member of an elastic material, and fitting and supporting it, when bringing plural pieces of superposed metallic sheets to an upsetting deformation by a punch and a die. CONSTITUTION:Two pieces of metallic sheets 1a, 1b are pressed by a punch 3, in a superposed state, and pressed against the upper end face of a die body 4. In this case, the die body 4 is constituted of plural pieces of movable pieces 4a-4d, energized toward the center of a die hole 2 in the inside of an annular supporting member 7 consisting of an elastic material (urethane rubber, etc.), and fitted, installed and supported. By pushing in the punch 3, a pressure receiving part of the sheets 1a, 1b becomes a bottomed cylindrical projecting part 8, made to stand still by a static pressure receiving surface 5, and thereafter, furthermore bulged in the radial direction of the die hole 2, and the projecting part 8 is formed integrally in one body structure and upset, and joined firmly. In the end of this joining operation, the movable die pieces 4a-4d are brought to a diameter expansion in the radial direction of the die hole 2 against anergizing of the annular supporting member 7, the bottom end part of the projecting part 8 is made to overhang, and the metallic sheets 1a, 1b are joined integrally in one body structure.
