PLATE WIDTH DETECTING DEVICE FOR HOT STRIP MILL

PURPOSE:To accurately evaluate width reducing model errors and to reduce variations in the plate width of a rolled stock by installing a range finder at both sides of the rolled stock in the outlet side of a vertical rolling mill and detecting variations in the plate width. CONSTITUTION:Range finders 7 and 8 are installed at opposite sides of a rolling stock 1 to face each other in the outlet side of a vertical rolling mill 3 of a hot strip mill consisting of the vertical rolling mill 3 and a horizontal rolling mill 2. Plate width variations W(i) are calculated based on the set value W0 of the finders 7 and 8 and respective output values DELTAW1(i) and DELTAW2(i) of the finders 7 and 8 at every sampling time. The width decrement model is corrected based on obtained variations W(i) in the outlet side of the mill 3 to reduce the width reducing, predecting error. In this mechanism, the quality of rolled stocks is improved.
