PURPOSE:A herbicide, obtained by using 2-benzothiazoloxyacetic acid N- methylanilide and at least one of 2-hydroxybenzothiazole and 2- benzothiazoloxyacetic acid derivative and having both herbicidal and protecting effects. CONSTITUTION:A herbicide obtained by using a herbicidally active compound 2-benzothiazoloxyacetic acid N-methylanilide (mefenacet) and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of 2-hydroxybenzothiazole expressed by formula I and a 2-benzothiazoloxyacetic acid derivative expressed by formula II (R is OH, lower alkoxy, amino or lower alkylamino), e.g. 2-benzothiazoloxy acetic acid, etc., together and capable of protecting paddy rice from the damage by the herbicide. About 0.1-12pts.wt., based on 1pt.wt. mefenacet, compound expressed by formula I and/or formula II is preferably used.
