The invention relates to a sliding roof (3) for motor vehicles, having a rigid cover (8), preferably composed of transparent or at least translucent material and having a frame (9) which supports this cover (8), holds it by means of a positive connection and on which an adjusting device acts in order to move the sliding roof (3) into various positions. The object of designing a connection possibility between the cover (8) and the frame (9) supporting it in such a manner that, for example, stress concentrations due to these two components having different coefficients of thermal expansion are prevented, is achieved according to the invention in that, at preferred fastening points (11-14), the cover (8) is in each case fastened on a holding element (17) which projects through an opening (15) in the frame (9) and is supported on the latter by a flange-like supporting surface (22). In this connection, the cross-section of passage (18) of the holding element (17) is smaller than the cross-section of the opening (15) in the frame (9) by an amount permitting a horizontal relative movement. <IMAGE>
