The clarifying vat has a central mash feed (20, 25, 27) which extends coaxially with a vertical drive shaft (1) of the breaking up machine through the clarifying vat floor and the lowering floors (3, 4) and has an annular distribution chamber (25) which is fastened to the clarifying vat, a mash outlet which takes the form of a concentric annular gap (27) and a concentric labyrinth section to prevent the backflow of remains. First wort and sparging water can flow into the clarifying vat through a central pipe (10). The central pipe (10) is guided vertically through the floors (3, 4), is surrounded by the annular mash-distribution chamber (25) and opens out into the clarifying vat via a concentric opening (13) above the distribution chamber. <IMAGE>
