The divided flywheel is designed as a so-called two-mass flywheel, one flywheel element being connected to the engine side and the other flywheel element being connected to the drive line side. The flywheel elements are coupled by means of a spring system. Within the resonant range, which occurs at very low speeds of rotation, the flywheel elements can be coupled rigidly to one another, making it virtually impossible for the flywheel elements to vibrate relative to one another. The resonant range of the system formed by the flywheel elements and the spring system coupling them together can thus be passed through without problems. <IMAGE>
