A device for controlling the illumination of scenes is described, particularly for image processing devices comprising an optoelectrical sensor which senses the scene. The invention is characterised by the fact that the polarity of the pulses is alternatingly positive and negative. This provides the invention with the advantage that the sensor is not excessively irradiated under any circumstances which can occur with conventional control methods, particularly in high-contrast scenes.
