1,2,4-Triazole derivs. of formulae (II) and (III), in which R1 is CN, carboxamide, thio-carboxamide or alkyl carboxylate and G is a 1-(alpha-alkoxyalkyl) gp., for pharmaceutical use as anti-viral agents, are made by addn. under anhydrous conditions with acid catalysis of a 1,2,4-triazole of formula (I) and a non-glycoside alpha-beta unsatd. ether, at 100 deg.C in a non-aprotic solvent.
