PURPOSE:To facilitate easy reproduction of an achromatic color by subjecting the specific restricting condition to a color correcting matrix. CONSTITUTION:A power circuit 6 which calculates the powers of signals R, G and B is provided together with a multiplication circuit 7 which calculates the product of color separating signals every two pieces, and the cyan, magenta and yellow signal arithmetic circuits 8, 9 and 10 which calculate the cyan, magenta and yellow recording signals respectively. These circuits 8-10 are connected to the cyan, magenta and yellow signal control circuits 11, 12 and 13 respectively. These circuits 11-13 perform the control so as to always satisfy the restricting conditions where the correcting matrix is equal to ai1+ai2+ai3=1 and ai4+ai5...ai9=0.
