PURPOSE:To prevent one-sided wear in a friction member from occurring, by constituting a clutch plate with an inward member to be connected to a turbine and an outward member cooperating with the friction member driven by the former. CONSTITUTION:Pressure oil entered the inside of a pump casing 16 of a targue converter 10 presses a clutch plate 46 and works as a hydraulic piston. At this time, since an inward member 46a is minutely displaced to the left at the engine side by dint of this pressure oil and presses an outward member 46b in the same direction via a projection 58, a friction member 52 comes into pressure-contact with a friction surface of the pump casing 16, whereby if the pressure oil is large enough, the pump casing 16 and the clutch plate 46, namely, a turbine 34 are frictionally engaged with each other in a relatively unrotative manner. But if hydraulic force is small, a slight slip is allowed to occur therein, so that a torque variation in an engine is effectively absorbed. Thus, one-sided wear in the friction member is prevented from occurring and, what is more, high torque transmission efficiency is securable.
