PURPOSE:To perform focus detection by providing an auxiliary lighting projection system which projects auxiliary light upon a subject almost in parallel to an optical axis and a circuit which derives the auxiliary lighting projection system in response to an auxiliary light emission signal sent out of a camera body prior to photography. CONSTITUTION:The upper part of a parallel plane optical member 11 is a cut part 11a and an external auxiliary light emission part 16 which emits infrared light such as an infrared LED for auxiliary lighting projection, an external auxiliary light emission control circuit 17, an auxiliary lighting projection lens 18, and an optical path bending mirror 19 are arranged on the cut part. The external auxiliary light emission control part 17 operates the auxiliary light emission part 16 and infrared luminous flux L emitted from a reflecting coupling surface 10 is reflected by the subject to return to the parallel plane optical member 11, but the photodetected luminous flux M strikes on the parallel plane 11 very nearby the optical axis, so the luminous flux enters a photographic lens straight without being impeded by a wavelength selective reflecting surface and is sent to a focus detecting device by a submirror provided to the body, so that focus detection is performed.
