An oar and rowlock arrangement for bow facing rowing comprises an inboard oar position 31 linked to a paddle portion 32 in a housing 35 which is journalled in a rowlock mounting 51 for pivotal movement about a transverse axis. The oar portions 31 and 32 are fulcrummed on parallel pivot pins 33 and 34 which are embedded at both ends in the housing. The adjacent edges of the oar portion are arcuate and form a constant small gap. Angular movement of the inboard oar portion 31 in either direction is transmitted to the paddle portion 32 by an appropriate one of two crossed-over lengths of wire rope 38 and 41 that are connected at either end to the two oar position, so that the paddle portion 32 is moved in the opposite direction. The transverse axis passes through the gap and between the lengths 38 and 41 of wire rope at their cross-over location. <IMAGE> |
