PURPOSE:To prevent iron from sticking to a luminous tube inner wall for maintaining an output of ultraviolet rays for a long time by a method wherein magnesium is added to an sealed in a luminous tube in which iron is sealed so that its gram atomic number ratio to that of iron may have a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:Metal mercury, mercury iodide, iron, magnesium and argon are sealed inside a luminous tube 1. A quantity of magnesium to be added shall have the gram atomic number ratio 1/40-2/3 to iron. And when a microwave is projected into said luminous tube 1, a mixture sealed inside is excited to discharge-luminesence for lighting. Then, even when being lighted up to about 1,000hr, iron is perfectly excluded from sticking to the inner wall of the luminous tube 1 so as not to from an iron thin film. Accordingly, there is no drop in the output of ultraviolet rays in the range of wavelength 280-400nm.
