A delayed-release door lock, particularly for washing machines and the like comprises a bimetallic plate (4) having two different stable curved positions at different temperatures. Power to the device is supplied via terminals (1, 2); current passing through the cylinder (3) causes it to warm up and the plate to trip to its second curvature. Its moving end acts upon two pegs (X, Y) and causes a locking member (5) to rotate to a locking position. When the power is switched off, the cylinder gradually cools and the plate eventually trips back, allowing the door to be opened. The mains power supply and the door-locking functions may be separated but contained in a single unit.

|
