<p>Overbased alkaline earth metal mono-alkylaryl sulphonates (I), in which the alkylaryl moiety is mono-alkyl orthoxylene or toluene (where the alkyl gp. contains 15-40 C atoms), are claimed, (I) having been prepd. from a sulphonic acid obtained by the sulphonation of alkylorthoxylene (or toluene) which was alkylated with a mixture of branched and linear olefins (contg. >=5, pref. 5-30, wt.% linear olefins). Also claimed are lubricating oils contg. (I). (I) are used as lubricant additives and exhibit reduced foaming tendencies compared to the analogous prods. based on benzenes.</p> |
