<p>Prepn. of a 4-aminodiphenylamine comprises hydrogenating a 4-nitrosodiphenylamine (4-NDPA) alkali metal salt, unsubstd. or substd. on one or more rings with 1-12C alkyl gps. in presence of an essentially water-immiscible aliphatic satd. alcohol, and water at a concn. increasing the hydrogenation rate, over a noble metal catalyst. - The nitrosodiphenylamine alkali metal salt is pref. a Na salt. The alcohol is pref. 5-10C linear or branched, primary or sec; more pref. 6-8C and with b.pt. 130-200 deg.C; and most pref. n-hexanol. The noble metal catalyst pref. comprises Pd (about 5 wt.%) on charcoal.</p> |
