PURPOSE:To shorten the distance between picture element columns and reduce memory capacity of image information temporary strong memory without lowering resolution by adjacently providing three picture element columns in parallel and transferring charges in the perpendicular direction to these picture element columns. CONSTITUTION:Three picture element columns A-C are adjacently provided in parallel and three charge transfer means are respectively provided in both sides thereof. The transfer gates T7-T14 are provided between respective structural elements and these transfer gates transfer the charges in the perpendicular direction of the figure. After the specified image pickup period To, the charges Qa-Qc generated at the odd number picture elements among the picture element columns A-C are transferred respectively to the charge transfer means a1-c1, while the charges Qa, Qc, generated at the even number picture elements of picture element columns A-C are transferred respectively to the charge transfer means a2-c2. Since only the transfer gates are provided between respective picture element columns as explained above, distance between picture element columns can be shortened considerably and memory capacity M can also be reduced remarkably. |
