The carrier for holding approximately spherical cheeses or disc-shaped cheeses with convex sides during maturing comprises a flat board with a complementary concave portion for each cheese provided with means to permit passage of air. This portion is arranged around the perimeter of a central opening and provided with alternate narrow ribs and grooves preferably arranged in vertical radial planes through the centre of the opening. The width of the upper end of the ribs is preferably less than 1 mm whilst the grooves are wider than 1 mm. The ribbed and grooved portion may be provided with perforations and/or surrounded by air passage slots.
