PURPOSE:To decrease deterioration of the quality of a reproduced picture even when a group of signals on one track lack by recording the video signals of the lines that are not neighboring to each other on a field picture in the same track. CONSTITUTION:The signals of a field N are divided into tracks 1-4, and likewise, the following field N+1's signals are divided into tracks 5-8. The said signals are recorded on a tape by four pieces of heads A-D/ When recording, each one line of the every four of the signals of respective fields to be recorded on the tape, is extracted and recorded on each one of the respective four tracks. For instance, on a track 1, the signals of every fourth line beginning from the head line 6, are recorded. By recording in such a way as the above, even when a group of signals on one track lack, noise signals that are unable to be reproduced are made only one line among every four on the field picture. Therefore, the said noise signals can be compensated by the signals of the preceding and the following lines by making use of the line-correlation characteristic of picture signals.
