PURPOSE:To make it possible to smoothly perform paper feed and printing operation by allowing the leading end of paper to enter between a platen and a paper press roller, by a method wherein a paper pressing release order is sent out to a paper press roller driving part in response to the start of paper feed operation and a paper pressing operation order is sent out in response to the finish of paper feed operation when a blank indicating distance is equal to or more than a fixed distance. CONSTITUTION:A current is supplied to a paper pressing magnet 18 to separate a paper pressing roller 3 from the outer peripheral surface of a platen 2. A value obtained by adding the initial paper feed quantity C of the initial paper feed quantity memory R2 of RAM26 to the blank indicating distance ASF at the leading end of paper 11 sent out from a host computer 24 or preset to an interface 25 is set to a motor driving control circuit 31 as paper feed quantity Y and a paper feed motor 32 is positively rotate to feed paper 11 by an Y-pitch to a positive direction. When the blank indicating distance ASF is equal to or more than the fixed distance B of the fixed distance memory R3 of RAM26, because the leading end of the paper 11 has reached the position above the paper pressing roller 3, the supply of a current to the paper pressing magnet 18 is cut off to press the paper pressing roller 3 to the platen 2.
