PURPOSE:To obtain a photochromic material constituting an optical recording medium which is stable even in a colored state and has a long recording life, by using a specified spiropyran. CONSTITUTION:A photochromic material comprising a spiropyran of formula I [wherein X is (CH3)2C, N or S; Y' and Y'' do not exist or are each a linkage comprising -OCO-, -NHCO-, -O-, -NH- or -S-; R' and R'' are each alkyl; 1-9 are each H or a substituent]. For example, a photochromic material comprising a spiropyran of formula IV is obtained by refluxing 1-octadecyl-3,3-dimethyl-2- methyleneindoline of formula II and 2-mercapto-3-behenoyloxymethyl-5- nitrobenzaldehyde of formula III in 2-butanone. |
