PURPOSE:To manufacture a winding drum having a different size at a low cost by installing a drum diameter varying element in slidable ways in the diameter spreading and contracting direction for the drum basic body. CONSTITUTION:In the state where the taper type diameter spreading element 24 of the second collar 7 is inserted into the core hole 11 of a taking-up drum 2, and a coil winding frame 1 is prepared, the drum diameter varying element 19 of the winding drum 2 is pushed in the diameter spreading direction, and the spread diameter state is generated. In this state, a wire is wound in align ment to form an alignment winding coil, and when the alignment winding coil obtains a necessary winding diameter, the second collar 7 is demounted from thw winding drum 2, and then the taper type diameter spreading element 24 is pulled out from the winding drum 2, and the drum diameter varying element 19 is retreated, in the diameter contraction direction by the action of a spring 20, and the drum diameter is contracted, and the alignment winding coil an be taken out easily. In order to manufacture the taking-up drum 2 having a different size, the drum diameter varying element 19 having a different size in radial direction is used, and the same basic side of the drum is used.
