PURPOSE:To upgrade the vertical resolution and to obtain sufficient contrast by interpolating in the unit original signals of two-scanning-line to generate a video signal equivalent to one scanning line, and driving a liquid crystal display panel for displaying using the said interpolation signal. CONSTITUTION:A composite video signal (a) inputted from an input terminal 11 is separated to R, G, and B signals by a color decoder 12, then converted to digital signals by an A/D converter 13, and supplied to a scanning line interpolating device 14. In the device 14, the R, G, and B color digital signals equivalent to three scanning lines are stored among which, the video signals for the first scanning line are directly outputted to a segment driver 17 as they are, the video signals for the second and the third scanning lines are added with each other, the average of the said addition is obtained to generate an interpolation video signal, and the signal is outputted to a driver 17. A liquid crystal display panel 19 is driven for display by the driver 17 and a common driver 18.
