PURPOSE:To facilitate the loading and unloading of a paper feed cassette on and from an apparatus body, by providing a shape memory alloy whose behavior is such that a press member is moved in a reverse direction overcoming a press spring during heating. CONSTITUTION:A tension coil spring 20 is disposed between a link 7 and a side plate 4 to give a clockwise torque to a lever 10. This coil spring 20 is made of a shape memory alloy which is formed in a coil shape and is subjected to heat treatment, and may be heated when current from a heating power supply 21 runs through it from one end to the other end. The spring constant of this coil spring 20 is low at a low temperature and therefore, is stretched by a bias coil spring 8. However, when it is heated, it has a spring constant relatively larger than that of the bias coil spring 8 so that the link 7 is rotated clockwise overcoming the coil spring 8, and therefore, a bottom plate press arm 6 is retracted into below a paper feed bed 3.
