1,202,310. Centrifugal separators. O. W. MULLER. 19 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54925/68. Heading B2P. An apparatus for separating solid or liquid particles from a gas stream comprises a generally cylindrical casing 10 with an inlet 11 and an outlet 13 for the gaseous stream, a hollow frusto-conical vaned whirl-producing member 15 (41) tapering towards the inlet 11 with its small end having a diameter equal to 0.3 to 0.6 times that of its base 24 which is open, an imperforate element 23 at (Fig. 3) or adjacent (Fig. 7) the small end of the member 15 (41) to constrain the gas stream to flow through the spaces between the vanes, a separation chamber 17 downstream of the member 15 (41) and in which, due to the effect of centrifugal force arising from the whirling motion of the gas stream, the particles collect in an annular layer while the cleaned gas stream discharges through the outlet 13, and a drain pipe 18 for removing the collected particles from the chamber 17. The member 15 (41) has a cone angle of 45‹ to 85‹. In Fig. 7, a short cylindrical, vaned, whirl-producing portion 40 is provided at the small end of the frustoconical member 41. . '- |
