In order to protect a ground surface (1), e.g. a tennis court, from weathering influences, supports are erected at the four corners and in the centre of the longitudinal sides of the ground surface, the central supports (3) being higher than the corner supports (4). A tarpaulin (5, 5') of the size of the surface to be protected is spread out on the ground and fastened, at each support, on a cable which runs over the support, thus permitting the tarpaulin to be raised. The roof formed in this way protects the ground surface from both rain and sun and can be mounted or demounted within 10-15 minutes. <IMAGE>
