PURPOSE:To provide a film forming compsn. which has excellent resistance to heat and water and workability, is non-combustible and gives a coating film which does not cause cracking, by blending a compsn. consisting of an aq. dispersion of colloidal silica and a water-soluble org. amine with a specified alkali titanate. CONSTITUTION:An aq. colloidal silica dispersion (A) contg. 10-50wt% SiO2 having a particle size of 1-100mum is blended with a water-soluble org. amine (B) (e.g., monoethanolamine) in a molar ratio of the amine to SiO2 in the component A of 1:0.01-1 to obtain a compsn. (C). 100pts.wt. (on a silica solid basis) component C is blended with 10-100pts.wt. alkali titanate of the formula (wherein M is Li, Na, K; n is 8 or below; m is 4 or below) (e.g., fibrous potassium titanate having a length of sum or above and an aspect ratio of 20 or above) and optionally, additives such as a pigment, an anti-foaming agent, a surfactant, etc.
