PURPOSE:To wash and roll steel sheet superior in surface cleanness at the following annealing, by jetting aq. soln. having specified contents of cation polymer compd. and nonion surfactant to rolled steel sheet at inlet or outlet side of the final stand in rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:In washing rolling of steel sheet, aq. soln. contg. 30-1000 ppm cation polymer compd., 50-2000 ppm nonion surfactant is jetted to steel sheet surface at inlet and/or outlet side of the final stand in rolling mill. To the cation polymer compd., that such as NN dialkyl aminoalkyl polymethacrylate having 10000-1000000 average molecular weight is suitable. On the other hand, to the nonion surfactant, that such as polyoxyethylene alkylether or the like having 8-15 average HLB is favorable. If necessary, further water soluble sulfur compd. or water soluble rust preventing agent can also be added to the aq. soln. By the washing rolling method, steel sheet having clean surface is obtd. even if electrolytic washing is omitted after cold rolling.
