PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost Cu alloy for a spring having satisfactory mechanical strength and stress relaxation resistance by providing a composition consisting of prescribed amounts of Zn, Ni, Mn and Sn and the balance Cu with inevitable impurities. CONSTITUTION:This Cu alloy for a spring consists of, by weight, 20-40% Zn, 2-10% Ni, 1-10% Mn, 0.01-3% Sn and the balance Cu with inevitable impurities. The tensile characteristics and stress relaxation resistance of the Cu alloy can further be improved by adding 0.01-3% one or more among Ta, Cr, Co, Zr, V, Be, Cd, As and P as secondary components. Since the Cu alloy has the above-mentioned characteristics, it is most suitable for use as a spring material for a terminal, connector, a switch, etc., for electronic and electric appliances.
