PURPOSE:To obtain an Al alloy stock having high strength and high elongation percentage and excellent in formability by providing a composition consisting of each prescribed amount of Mg, Zn, Cu, and Ti and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. CONSTITUTION:The Al alloy stock of this invention consists of, by weight, 3.5-6.0% Mg, 0.5-3.5% Zn, 0.01-0.07% Cu, 0.005-0.20% Ti, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. In order to manufacture said Al alloy stock, an Al alloy ingot with the above composition is subjected to homogenizing treatment at 450-580 deg.C, to hot rolling, to intermediate rolling at 320-480 deg.C, and then to cold rolling. The resulting Al alloy stock combines a tensile strength of >=30kg/mm<2> with an elongation percentage of >=30% and is excellent in press formability. Accordingly, this Al ally stock is suitable for automobile use of for use as panel material.
