PURPOSE:To obtain a data link system having high reliability by establishing a link as a U-link system to operate it without degrading the capability and the function even if a trouble occurs in a transmission medium to disconnect it. CONSTITUTION:Each node condition is detected based on preliminarily determined control, and the mode of the node is switched and controlled as shown in figures (a)-(c) in accordance with detection results. That is, the repeat mode is set when changeover switches are not operated; and when changeover switches SW1A and SW1B are turned on, the clock of a clock generator 15 and a flag signal indicating that the node itself is a clock source are outputted to an incoming transmission line 112, and the input of an incoming transmission line 111 is outputted to an outgoing transmission line 114 through the switch SW1B, and the mode of the node itself is set to the clock mode. When a switch SW2 is turned on, the output of the incoming transmission line 112 is outputted to the outgoing transmission line 114 simultaneously, and a flag signal indicating that the node itself is in the turn-back mode is outputted into a transmission data frame on the incoming transmission line 112 through a mode inserter 16.
