PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording material having a coloring matter which is highly soluble in organic solvents, can be applied with coating, has a high reflectance, gives favorable contrast an has excellent light resistance and resistance to reproducing light, by providing a base and a recording layer comprising a formazan-nickel complex light-absorbing coloring matter. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording material comprises a base and a recording layer comprising a formazan-nickel complex light-absorbing coloring matter, e.g., a coloring matter of general formula [I]. The compound of general formula [I] is soluble in a wide range of solvents. If necessary, an undercoat layer may be provided on the base, and a protective layer may be provided on the recording layer. The thickness of the recording layer is 100Angstrom -5mum. |
