PURPOSE:To improve the operating life of the spacer plate of an electromagnet device significantly and avoid the opening incapability of the electromagnet by employing a cladded steel plate consisting of a compressed laminated composed of a magnetic substrate and austenite system stainless steel thin film non-magnetic layers laminated on both sides of the magnetic substrate as the spacer plate. CONSTITUTION:As a spacer plate 5, a compressed laminate composed of, for instance, a magnetic substrate 5b with the thickness of about 0.5mm made of SS41 steel and SUS304 austenite system stainless steel thin film non-magnetic layers 5a and 5c with the thickness of about 0.1mm laminated on both sides of the substrate 5b. Generally, this spacer plate 5 is manufactured by a method wherein metal plates whose thicknesses are about ten times the respective thicknesses of the metal plates of the thin film non-magnetic layers 5a and the magnetic substrate 5b are laminated, heated and hot-rolled. Thic thin film non-magnetic layer 5a is uniformly formed while maintaining non-magnetism and the junction surfaces between the thin film non-magnetic layers and the magnetic substrate are metallurgically joined.
