PURPOSE:To view the operation of an optical system from outside by providing an original pressing plate with a light guide plate so that light from a light source is guided out. CONSTITUTION:The light guide plate 3 is made of a material which transmits light such as acryl and glass, and a grip 1, the light guide plate 3, and a platen cover 4 are fixed to a platen cover 2. The platen cover 2 is fitted to the main body of a copying machine or image reader through a hinge and can be opened and close up and down. The platen cover 4 is so fitted as to have a clearance with an original platen glass presser 7 when closed and the light from the light source 10 reaches the light guide plate 3 through original platen glass 6. Consequently, when the optical system begins to move, the light from the light guide plate 3 moves according to the movement of the optical system, whose motion can be seen from outside.
