PURPOSE:To correct a character which cannot be read without viewing a document by storing pattern data of the image of the character which cannot be read and the reading result in a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:Reading data of the document from an optical character reader OCR3 is outputted to a reading data storing area 5 of the magnetic disk 4 and the pattern data of the character decided to be one which cannot be read is also outputted to a pattern data storing area 6. Accordingly, in the disk 4, the reading data of the document and the character pattern data of the corresponding character which cannot be read are stored. Therefore, after the completion of the reading, the data is inputted from the disk 4 without connecting the OCR3 to a control part 2, and the reading data and the character pattern data are displayed on a display 1 to correct the character which cannot be read.
