PURPOSE:To change a light quantity of a photodetector extending over a wide range and also continuously, by using a zoom lens as a device for adjusting the intensity of a radiation which is irradiated to the photodetector from a body whose temperature is to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A light beam which has been radiated from a body 5 whose temperature is to be measured passes through a zoom lens 2 being a light quantity adjusting means and forms an image 5a or 5b on a projected surface 1'. A photodetector 1, the zoom lens 2, and the body 5 whose temperature is to be measured are placed so that a distinct image of the body 5 whose temperature is to be measured is formed on the projected surface 1' by the zoom lens 2. An output of the photodetector 1 is amplified by an amplifier 3, and therafter, sent to an arithmetic circuit 4, and a temperature of the body 5 whose temperature is to be measured is calculated.
