The invention relates to a device making it possible to always have available comfortable sleeping accommodation, while not completely cluttering the surface of premises of reduced size. It thus improves the habitability and the comfort of these living quarters. The device consists of a rigid horizontal bed support 20 which can be moved between a high storage position under the ceiling of a living area and low positions for use, placed on resting points. The system for raising and lowering the bed consists of a hoist 31 actuated by a crank 34 for winding up and unwinding the cables 29, guided by the pulleys 27 and 42, their ends are fastened to the articulation points 24 of the four arms, consisting of the articulated bars 21 and 22, intended for guiding the bed in its movements. The device according to the invention can generally be installed in any dwelling and, according to the particular embodiment described, it can be placed in a raised section of the roof of a vehicle consisting of a rigid lid 7 and of folding panels 5 and 6. <IMAGE>
