The invention relates to a device for joining two objects and causing their relative distance to vary. This device comprises: - a deformable and ferromagnetic cylindrical bar 1, essentially produced from a mixture of rubber and soft iron powder, in proportions defined by the application required; - one or more windings 2, 2a made from an electrically conductive material, from copper for example, forming a solenoid surrounding the cylindrical bar, and capable of creating, by the passage of an electric current, a magnetising field at the heart of the bar, which for this reason contracts the bar by magnetostriction; - two fastening components 3 securely fastened to each of the ends of the cylindrical bar.
