The reader comprises elastic strips 2 and 3 situated opposite each other on either side of a central corridor which is followed by a passage 10 created in an insulating mounting 4. The strips 2 are linked by their end 13 and conductors 15 to circuitry 16. The strips 3 have no conducting link and are thus electrically neutral. They are only present in order to use their elasticity by virtue of which a medium A, such as a memory card, is squeezed between the strips 2 and the strips 3, so that the conducting strips 2 are properly applied against the contacts B of the card A. The passage 10 allows the card A to overlap the mounting 4, or even to be removed if it is not to be given back. <IMAGE>
