PURPOSE:To manufacture a rear panel and a front panel efficiently so as to improve the assembling accuracy by forming a panel after forming the rear panel and the front panel in a single piece and then separating them. CONSTITUTION:A rear panel 25 and a front panel 26 are formed in a single piece as a dish-like asymmetric glass formed body which has a rim 4. This formed body is cut off obliquely at the middle of the rim 4 in accordance with the angle of the sealing face of a funnel 22 to be divided into the rear panel 25 and the front panel 26. The rear panel 25 and the front panel 26 thus obtained are sealed at the rim 4 to form a panel 21. This process can from the rear panel 25 and the front panel 26 efficiently and improves the assembling accuracy. The thickness of a funnel rising-up portion is made constant for improving the productivity of the funnel 22. The axis of an electron gun can also be inclined relative to the funnel, enabling a thin cathode ray tube to be produced.
