PURPOSE:To obtain an image reader with simple constitution, a high stability, and a low cost by rotating a rotary filter consisting of a color filter having plural colors, performing a color separation of light from an object to be read to the plural colors, and performing a photoelectric conversion in order with a single photoelectric converter. CONSTITUTION:Reflected light from an object 11 to be read is reflected at a reflecting mirror 13 and is made incident on a read lens 14, and is made incident on a CCD type image sensor 15. A rotary filter 16 is constituted with color filters 16R, 16G, and 16B of three color primaries of red, green, and blue, and the light made incident on the image sensor 15 is changed along the rotating direction of the rotary filter 16 in order in a sequence of red transmitted light, green transmitted light, and blue transmitted light. One third rotation in the rotary filter 16 is equivalent to a scanning time of one line in the image sensor 15. An output signal is sent to a signal processing part 20, and each of a red color component signal, a green color component signal, and a blue color component signal can be obtained by applying prescribed signal processings on them.
