PURPOSE:To prevent the service life of a laser diode from being wasted by keeping the drive of a spindle motor and stopping the light emission of a laser drive when a controller judges it that an optical disc device is probably not in use. CONSTITUTION:As the criterion of the possibility in use at an operation possibility discriminating means 1, when a time exceeds a prescribed time after the optical disc device is released from the operating state, it is judged that the device is possibly not in used. A laser diode light control means 2 stops the light emission of the laser diode by using a signal being the result of no possibility of the operation by the means 1, sends a signal representing the emission stop state to an LD emission stop means 3, and the LD-off state is sent to an optical disc controller as, e.g., one of status signals. That is, the optical disc device is possible not in use by the controller, the emission of the laser diode is stopped to save the service life of the laser diode. |
