PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording method by which ternary recording and high-speed recording can be performed and images with excellent stability and high quality can be recorded, by using a combination of an azulenium salt compound and a diacethylene derivative compound in forming a recording layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium has a recording layer which comprises a monomolecular film or built-up film of a diacetylene drivative compound having at least a hydrophilic part and a hydrophobic part and an azulenium salt compound having a skeleton of the formula, wherein each of R1-R7 is hydrogen, a halogen or a monovalent organic residue. In this optical recording method, the medium is irradiated with UV rays, and is then irradiated with light while controlling the light exposure according to recording information. By using a single sheet of the recording medium with semiconductor laser, high-density recording by ternary recording comprising color change recording and pit recording can be performed, and high-sensitivity high-speed recording can be performed. Since the recording layer is homogeneous and has favorable surface properties, optical recording can be performed with excellent stability and high quality. |
