PURPOSE:To decrease the starting load of a stirling engine and to shorten a starting time, by a method wherein, during the starting of the stirling engine, a clutch is disengaged during a time in which the number of revolutions of the engine is increased to a give value, connection between the engine and an oil pump is disconnected. CONSTITUTION:When a stirling engine 1 is started, a clutch 5 is previously disengaged by means of an actuator 6. Air from a blower 9 and fuel from a tank 10 are respectively fed in a burner 7. When a heater tube 12 in the burner 7 is heated and a temperature sensor 13 detects a given temperature, a starter motor 14 is run. Thereafter, when the number of revolutions of the engine 1 is increased to a given value, a detecting signal from a tachometer 15 is inputted to a controller 16, and when a given condition is satisfied, a driving signal is sent to the actuator 6. By means of the driving signal, the clutch 5 is engaged, and the driving force of the engine 1 is transmitted to an oil pump 2.
