PURPOSE:To improve wearing resistance and heat resistance, by forming a valve guide, used for an internal combustion engine or the like, constituting the internal peripheral surface, in the vicinity of a valve insertion end part, of a guide part, consisting of ceramics, while the main unit of a part consisting of metal. CONSTITUTION:In the case of an engine, in which intake and exhaust holes 2, 3, provided in a valve case 1 mounted to the upper end of a cylinder 21, are opened and closed by intake and exhaust valves 4, 5 vertically moved and guided by valve guides 6, 7, the valve guides 6, 7 are constituted of a compound structure connected by combining a ceramic material 8 with a metallic material 9. The ceramic material 8 is formed in the internal peripheral surface in the vicinity of a valve insertion end art, being molded by ceramics, for instance, Si3N4, ZrO2, etc. having wearing resistance and heat resistance. While the metallic material 9, which is provided for constituting a valve guide main unit, is formed by a sintered material or the like of stainless steel or high-speed steel having a larger thermal expansion coefficient and larger strength than the ceramics.
